You need mental models.

The way we think directly impacts the way we act.

Many actions are emotion-driven, sure.

But a lot are still thought-driven.

Mental models reign in those rash, emotional actions and allow you to process logic more quickly.

It’s a win-win.

Shane Parrish, the forefather of this concept, outlines over 100 thinking models across 4 volumes of books (they’re worth the read—I’m 1 and a half in).

He describes mental models as “a compression of how something works.”

It’s “any idea, belief, or concept can be distilled down.”

Think of it like a mental habit.

A map for your brain.

A shortcut.

Analyze how you:

  • react in certain situations

  • work out a problem

  • learn new things

Identify patterns.

Train your brain to default to them—which comes from repetition.

Consciously use a mental model for long enough it’ll become subconscious.

You’ll use it without thought.

Rewire your brain.
