No Encouragement Needed

Love him or hate him, Elon Musk knows a thing or two about business.

And one thing’s for certain: he’s blunt.

In a recent Spaces chat with Cathie Wood, Musk told her “if you need encouragement to start a company, don’t do it.”

Not your typical startup advice.

But he’s making a point on difficulty—startups aren’t easy.

It takes a special type of person with an internal drive few ever find and most aren’t cut out for it.

So to some this is a message of encouragement.

To touch on yesterday’s newsletter: passion is a major factor in entrepreneurial success. With enough of it you’ll overcome any obstacle.

On the other hand, a lack of self-motivation could be a sign to turn back. It’s not the be-all and end-all, but a caution worth considering.

Ultimately, you have to take an introspective look and decide for yourself.
