Give a Damn

It’s crude advice but a necessary reminder.

I’ve talked about passion, I’ve talked about knowing your customer, I’ve talked about building great products, and the list goes on.

But at its core, underlying it all, you have to care more than anyone else.

Customers can tell if you care about what you’re building—it’ll be evident throughout your business.

It’s the difference between a great product and a revolutionary one.

This was the fundamental attitude Alexis Ohanian developed with his team while building Stack Exchange.

It’s a mentality that goes beyond product and into a community people love.

Are you creating just another cool gadget?

Or are you creating a network of users that feel they have a new home?

It’s something to think about.

I thought this was a really cool perspective—it changes the way I see my business at least.

So give a damn and give a lot of them.
