The Currency of Attention

Hooks are a digital writer’s best friend.

You have 3 seconds to capture attention.

Otherwise they’ll be gone.

That’s pretty fast.

But that’s on social media—there’s usually not much depth there.

So let’s say you make it to the pitch.

You’re on the phone with a prospect.

Or you’re standing in front of a potential investor.

This is the make or break moment. So how long do you have?

Robert Herjavec suggests this: “You have 90 seconds, if you’re lucky. If you can’t make your point persuasively in that time, you’ve lost the chance for impact.”

In his time on Shark Tank he’s seen the data. He knows which pitches excel and which ones flop.

If you can’t relay your value fast you might as well not at all.

Get to the point:

  • What you do

  • Why they should care

  • Next steps

If you can’t get that out in 90 seconds you’ve got some refining to do.

Time and attention are money.

The clock is ticking.
