2 Steps Not 200

Everyone knows the adage that surrounding yourself with successful people eventually rubs off.

Unfortunately it’s a little more nuanced than that.

It works, but you have to be careful who you select to emulate.

In recounting his journey as a young entrepreneur, Andy Drish explains how he sought after people 2 steps ahead of him.

Any more and they’re too far off to be relatable. Any less and you’re at virtually the same level.

That’s why I’ve been mixing in less known entrepreneurs into The Catalyst daily insights. Steve Jobs may be a huge inspiration, but reaching a trillion dollar market cap is something only 6 companies in the world can relate to.

No matter the place you are in your journey, seek mentors at an achievable distance ahead. Think two years more experience or twice as valuable of a company.

Surround yourself with the right people and they’ll rub off even more.
